Our History

The KayCee Club is the sister organization to the Knights of Columbus, Dallas Council 799. It is the incorporated entity responsible for the operations of our facilities.

Dallas Council 799 was first chartered on May 9, 1903 and is the second oldest Council in the state of Texas. The first Council Hall, located at 1914 Main Street, occupied the entire third floor
of an office building between Main Street and Elm Street. The small space was used for both a meeting room and recreational purposes. In 1915 the Council purchased their first property at 2520 Ross Avenue. The former residential home was remodeled for Council use. During World War I, the United States Government used the Hall for “soldier classes”.

Two properties later, in 1951, the Council purchased a building which was located at 7333 East Northwest Highway and was a local nightclub called “The Showboat”. The 8-acre property and the building became the home of Council 799 for many years. Located high on a hill, its colonial architecture became a Dallas landmark.  In 1958, the property was transferred to the “sister organization” the KayCee Club, Inc.

46 years later the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Authority purchased from the KayCee Club their building and land to build a passenger station for the Light Rail Line to Garland. Looking for a new home, the Council found their current building and final home for the KayCee Club.  After remodeling the facility, the building was blessed and dedicated on Sunday, May 16, 1999.
